The Importance of Momentum
Thoughts come and go. The way I keep track of my thoughts is a mobile app which is basically a voice recorder. The playlist is my writing topic queue and for me it is important to keep the playlist running by adding new and removing the old recordings.
My last running session came after quite a long break, probably about 9 days, which was definitely not part of my plan and I felt sorry that I wasn’t consistent. I event felt my other plans suffered because the balance of my universe was out of order.
This got me thinking about how important is to keep the momentum going and this is a good example on what can happen when you lose focus and your momentum gets weaker.
I believe that success comes after setting a series of goals and following up on those, having as little tolerance as possible in losing your pace and damaging your daily/hourly schedule.
I came up with is a list of things that in my experience could/would happen when you lose your momentum:
1. You are undoing all the work done so far
By a definition, a momentum means:
The strength or force that allows something to continue or to grow stronger or faster as time passes
Think about what happens when time passes and the force becomes weaker. This means that you put your live in reverse while hitting the full throttle. Life is sucking you back in to the past and if you don’t start bringing some of your momentum back it will crash.
2. You are unable to build upon what you had so far which equates to not making any progress towards your goal, whether it is a business or life decision.
3. You lose your motivation.
This part is extremely important and I think that motivation is what makes the momentum going. I might even have another article where I would just write my thoughts on motivation.
Losing it means that you will never get that project done, you will never reach your 2016 goals, you will never be trusted again because everything you say turns into a lie after a lie … Is this true?
Well, not completely. Losing motivation is a part of the test and if you can’t stay determined and motivated then you should start looking for ways to keep it interested and excited. However, remember that it could turn out to be a fatal thing for your goals if not handled properly and on time.
4. As time passes it makes it harder to get back on the road.
Losing focus usually causes you to put some extra energy in order to move yourself. Those experienced in driving know how much more fuel you waste when you drive through a busy downtown and how you waste even more when you suddenly have to break up on a hill, and then speed up again. Your mental hill is getting bigger every time you skip your training, or delay working on your project.
5. It affects your other plans
Failing in one matter, causes you to slip on the other as well. Now, in this situation it would probably be wise to focus your energy leftover into one matter and complete it as soon as possible. Believe me, this will give you a stronger motivation boost when it comes to reaching other goals, and plus you get to check off one goal off your list.
The reason why I am writing these articles is to help myself first and then I hope some else learns from my thoughts and experience. What the hack, we could be working towards our goals together.
As I have said in the beginning, our thoughts come and go and every article I write is some kind of a conclusion I reached after having some ‘not so great’ experience in my life. And I am feeling down, and I don’t see any new ideas coming to me, I want to be able to go back to my articles and basically go back to my basics. So far it has been giving me some energy and motivation boosts so I think I will be able to use it in the future as well.
Happy Momentum !
