How To Setup Gmail Alias The Right Way

I have seen too many blog posts that don’t tell me exactly what I want.

And what I want is to connect my new domain (laravel-recipes.com) email with my existing Gmail account as an alias. The problem is that recently once you do it, it wouldn’t sync your emails to that custom domain email address into your Gmail account. You could still send emails though, but not receive.

The reason for this is that Gmail seems to have removed the POP3 protocol from the options when you are adding your alias account. Now you need to specifically create POP3 sync in addition to your alias email account.

So here are the steps to do so:

Get your domain

(Assuming you already have one). I will use my laravel-recipes.com for this demonstration.

Set up Gmail Alias

Once you have it, click Add a mail account below to add POP3 sync
You should type your email before this screen and then fill out the details.

And that’s it really. Now you can select your new email when you are sending your email and receive all the emails that come to your Bluehost email account.
