As the race day is approaching, and I am realizing that I haven’t trained diligently to maybe set personal best, but hoping to get close. On the other hand, everything is possible. Never say never.

This post is part of the major series that I called

Nevertheless, I realize that I need to start picking up the distance and approach to that 21km.

Very important note; If you want to finish the race, you DO NOT have to run 21km in your training, BUT try to get as close as you can.

Race day is special and you will usually run faster, if you put some thought into it and not overdo it at the beginning of the race and drain yourself down.

Today I ran 16km on a treadmill and I felt great. In fact, I felt like I could do the whole 21km.

I made some corrections from the last treadmill run, where I wore a cotton shirt and thicker socks.

This time I wore a running jersey and a pair of short socks. In addition, I switched my water bottle and made myself a drink at home including ginger and lemons. It was so refreshing and I got to eat the solid pieces after the workout.

Run Tracker

As always, I used my Garmin watch to track my run. It has an indoor run option which might be showing lower pace than it would have been outdoors.

Other senses

In order to keep my eyes busy I was listening to a podcast with Tom Bilyeu and Jim Kwik. Great piece!

I truly felt amazing after the run. The key, and I expressed this before, is to start running on a treadmill in order to improve your endurance and distance. That is an isolated environment without major distractions.

TIP OF THE DAY

I think I was able to run that much because I didn’t force myself as much in the beginning as I did on my last treadmill run. What I like to do, is to set an incline to 1% so I simulate a small uphill and put some pressure on to my body.

Sleep

Another key component that might have played a bigger role was the sleep, which I got more than enough the night before. Full 8 hours. Felt little cranky when I got up, but I guess it has its advantages.
